Oyo Reaffirms Commitment To Environmental Sustainability As Government Receives Geospatial Analysis Report

The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to combating deforestation and promoting environmental sustainability across the state as it received the first half of the 2026 Geospatial Analysis Report from Research in Saheal Limited.

The report, which focuses on the extent of deforestation, illegal mining activities and encroachment on forest reserves within Oyo State, was presented to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as part of a biannual environmental assessment initiative designed to support effective environmental planning and resource management.

Receiving the report on behalf of the state government, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, stated that the findings would further assist the government in understanding the realities on ground and in developing practical measures to restore degraded forests, restrict access to undesignated mining sites and tackle all forms of illegal environmental activities across the state.

Hon. Aderinto noted that the Ministry is currently exploring strategic partnerships and initiatives aimed at restoring forest resources through tree planting programmes and other sustainable environmental practices that would protect the state’s natural resources for future generations.

He added that the Oyo State Government remains committed to taking necessary actions against individuals and groups involved in illegal operations threatening the environment and natural resources of the state, stressing that environmental protection remains a collective responsibility that requires the support of all stakeholders.

The Geospatial Analysis Report was formally presented by the Technical Representative of Research in Saheal Limited, Mr. Opoola Olayiwola, who reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting environmental sustainability and responsible resource management through continuous data driven monitoring, analysis and reporting.

The Commissioner thereafter appreciated the organisation for its continued partnership and support towards environmental protection efforts in Oyo State, describing the report as timely and essential for effective environmental planning, policy formulation and implementation across the state.
